Professor Andrew Gamble

Andrew Gamble is Professor of Politics at the University of Sheffield and Emeritus Professor of Politics at the University of Cambridge. He is a Fellow of the British Academy and the Academy of Social Sciences. His main research interests lie in political economy, British politics, political theory and political history. His books include The free economy and the strong state (1988); Hayek: the iron cage of liberty (1996); Politics and Fate (2000); Between Europe and America: the future of British politics (2003), and Crisis without end? The unravelling of western prosperity (2014). In 2005 he received the Isaiah Berlin Prize from the Political Studies Association for lifetime contribution to political studies. He is currently writing a book on ‘Can the welfare state survive?’
