he Mile End Institute is delighted to announce a new doctoral research post examining devolution in England co-funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and the Local Government Information Unit (LGIU).

Dr Patrick Diamond, Deputy Director of the Mile End Institute and MEI's partners will lead an innovative analysis of the radical policy experiment taking place in Greater Manchester where significant powers are handed over from Whitehall.

The research will also examine how power is exercised at local level in a more traditional local authority structure using Essex County Council as a case-study.

The research contributes to the Mile End Institute’s commitment to exploring on-going attempts to reconstruct the architectures of state, government and union.
